Located on Mt. Desert Island, Maine next to Acadia National Park, AIO is a hands-on field program that offers students the opportunity to learn about all aspects of oceanography. Through work at tide pools, beaches, on a boat, and in the lab, students get a chance to study the ocean and coastal ecosystems in depth. This is an academic residential summer camp.

We offer a one-week Introductory Session for ages 10–12, two-week ...read moreIntermediate Sessions for ages 12–14, and Advanced Sessions for ages 15–18. Our Advanced Session can be taken for college credit through the University of Maine. Students will also engage in recreational activities in and around Acadia National Park. Applicants must have a satisfactory teacher recommendation for final acceptance into the program.

Our teaching staff are experienced educators from schools and universities around the country with expertise in different areas of marine science. Join us for some summer science fun!
