YMCA Summer Camps

The YMCA, or Young Men’s Christian Association, was founded in London in 1844 to promote healthy, educational, and spiritually rewarding activities for boys and young men in the city. Today, the YMCA (often shortened to “The Y”) is an internationally recognized nonprofit that welcomes both girls and boys of all religious backgrounds. The organization has changed a lot in the last 200 years, but it hasn’t lost its commitment to being a positive influence for young people.

The YMCA manages over 2000 summer camps throughout the United States and Canada. Like most other programs they provide, YMCA summer camps are designed to help kids develop character, learn skills, and make friends. Your children have an amazing opportunity to build self-reliance while also learning how fun and fulfilling it is to be part of a community.

The Right YMCA Camp for You

Every camp affiliated with the YMCA has similar values and the same high standards for the camp experience, but each one is still unique. Families can choose from a variety of camps in their area that match their preferences.

A YMCA day camp, for example, is a great choice for kids who aren’t ready for an overnight stay. They’ll still have plenty of chances to make friends and try new things, but they’ll get to go home to a familiar environment at night. At an overnight YMCA summer camp, however, your children will have a greater opportunity to bond with their bunkmates and spend time outdoors.

YMCA camps can be just for girls, just for boys, or coed, depending on what you’re most comfortable with, as well as organized into different age groups. If a summertime program isn’t the most convenient for your family, keep looking—you may be able to find one of the YMCA’s winter camps in our directory too.
