  • Job Description: Deer Hill Expeditions seeks experienced, motivated, and caring outdoor educators to lead wilderness expeditions and service projects in the American Southwest, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. Deer Hill's purpose is to enhance an individual's appreciation of the natural world, teach minimum impact wilderness-living skills, promote stewardship of the Earth, and foster a tradition of service to native lands and peoples. We provide a challenging atmosphere in which adolescents can grow as individuals and be integral members of a small community.
  • Responsibilities of Field Leaders: To ensure the safety and well-being of each participant and to lead expeditions that are fun while fostering participants' growth as individuals. Specific elements include: teaching wilderness living skills, off-trail route finding, adjusting a backpack, fixing MSR stoves, loading and driving vehicles with gear and people, guiding loaded rafts through rapids, facilitating fun games and activities to a group, managing a top rope site or guiding a difficult discussion of the group's dynamics.
  • Qualifications: Previous experience leading groups in the wilderness. Experience leading and teaching the following activities: rafting, canoeing, kayaking, inflatable kayaking, rock climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, mountaineering, canyoneering and/or service projects. Current CPR + WFR certification (or equivalent: EMT / WEMT). Concern for the young people and the natural world. Training from NOLS, OB, or college outdoor programs a plus.

  • Basecamp Support Staff internships run from Mid-June to Mid-August. Deer Hill seeks motivated people to assist with major functions of the Deer Hill summer season.

Administrative Support: office and marketing assistance, database input, tracking admissions paperwork. Operations Support: gear repair, facilities upkeep, vehicle maintenance
