Job Description: Deer Hill Expeditions seeks experienced, motivated, and caring outdoor educators to lead wilderness expeditions and service projects in the American Southwest, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. Deer Hill's purpose is to enhance an individual's appreciation of the natural world, teach minimum impact wilderness-living skills, promote stewardship of the Earth, and foster a tradition of service to native lands and peoples. We provide a challenging atmosphere in which adolescents can grow as individuals and be integral members of a small community. Responsibilities of Field Leaders: To ensure the safety and well-being of each participant and to lead expeditions that are fun while fostering participants' growth as individuals. Specific elements include: teaching wilderness living skills, off-trail route finding, adjusting a backpack, fixing MSR stoves, loading and driving vehicles with gear and people, guiding loaded rafts through rapids, facilitating fun games and activities to a group, managing a top rope site or guiding a difficult discussion of the group's dynamics. Qualifications: Previous experience leading groups in the wilderness. Experience leading and teaching the following activities: rafting, canoeing, kayaking, inflatable kayaking, rock climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, mountaineering, canyoneering and/or service projects. We own operate two public stables that offer horseback riding tours through Rocky Mountain National Park and Roosevelt National Forest. With people visiting from all over the world, our staff (wranglers) never know who they will meet next on their trail rides to help them become a "cowboy" for a while. SK Horses runs over 100 horses between our two locations. Wranglers take part in all care and preparing the horses for daily work. We offer a one hour ride up to an all day ride 7 days a week. Average ride time is two hours for a family visiting. The wranglers can ride up to 6-8 hours a day giving different tours to the people on vacation.
