Wellspring CampsWellspring Camps provide a scientifically-based behavioral change program focused on long-term weight loss. The goal of Wellspring Camps is to expose campers who are more than 20 pounds overweight to different ways to get in shape and lose weight so that they continue to be active after camp ends.
Campers are typically grouped by age and gender, maximizing the program for each participant's needs and body type. In addition to recreational activities, campers meet with doctorate-level behavior coaches to make long-lasting changes in attitude and self esteem.
With a Wellspring Camp near you, you can enjoy the benefits of a scientifically based approach, a large pool of resources, smaller programs than traditional weight loss camps, diet camps or fat camps, and the chance to implement healthy lifestyle change in a supportive and fun environment. This summer, you may choose from 12 Wellspring programs: New York, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, California, Texas, Vancouver, United Kingdom, Wellspring Academy and Wellspring Family Camp.
Camp Ak-O-MakFounded in 1928, Camp Ak-O-Mak is renowned for its competitive and open water swimming programs. Ak-O-Mak provides the perfect combination of a traditional summer camp experience with instruction in over 32 sports/activities. Competitive programs are offered in swimming, triathlon, and canoe/kayak sprint racing for all levels.
Ak-O-Mak is located on beautiful Ahmic Lake in the unspoiled Almaguin Highlands of Ontario. Our location provides the perfect setting for girls to appreciate the wonders of nature "unplugged". Ak-O-Mak helps girls discover the exhilaration of pushing oneself a little further, of digging a little deeper and discovering that "I CAN do it!" feeling. It has been said that "Self esteem is gained through the self doing things worthy of esteem!" and we have 80 years of alumni who can attest to this. Ak-O-Mak's smaller size (maximum 100 campers and a 3:1 staff:camper ratio) fosters a closely knit atmosphere where all ages get to know, support and encourage each other. These relationships contribute to the safe environment where girls can develop their athletic skills and experience challenges that enhance personal and social development. Campers from Canada, the USA and the world over enjoy cabin living, campfires, home cooked meals and forging life-long friendships
Oak Acres Children's Camp is a not-for-profit summer camp for children aged 7-12 who are selected to attend by the Province’s Guidance Counselors. The children are not charged a fee for attending. Our staff consists of a combination of paid, trained counselors and volunteers.
The campers at Oak Acres have the opportunity to participate in many activities including horseback riding, archery, orienteering and hiking, arts and crafts, swimming, canoeing, and low ropes initiatives. The campers are placed into gender based cabin groups of 5-8 children. Each group has a counselor who is directly responsible for the care of the children during their stay.
Hundreds of children from NB, PEI and NS travel to Thorburn, NS where they bunk in cabins on the banks of the Sutherland's River. In addition to Salvation Army-run camps, Scotian Glen hosts camps for the Nova Scotia Cancer Society and Nova Scotia Firefighters Burn Treatment Society.
Activities such as canoeing, swimming, hiking, archery, horseshoes, volleyball, soccer, baseball and basketball fill the days. Days end by the campfire with a sing-a-long and marshmallow roast. Scotian Glen makes memories for kids that last a lifetime in a safe and caring environment.
